Is Pocket Money Starting In Your House ??

Well, we have made it through the first week of the school holidays it was eventful with lockdowns then a down pours for 5 days it definitely set a mood. There was so much cabin fever happening, but we got through it together. Nobody was sold on eBay this week and the chocolate highs are defiantly on the downwards trend in this house I have only had to explain countless time that we probably should not consume chocolate eggs everyday for breakfast even if there a side of fruit with them the small one doesn’t quite agree but fed is best right ??? lol

Today I am going to talk to about something the small one asked me in the last week it took me by surprise but a request for pocket money has been made now we had the chat on how you earn pocket money around the house by doing small jobs and they seemed very thrilled by this but now I am sort pondering age-appropriate jobs to be done. The small human has been making there bed now for good 2 years and I have never paid a cent for this to be done. I can just picture it now being told I owe my 6-year-old $200 dollars for the last 2 years of bed making as they have gone unpaid thank god, they do not know about fair work right lol

So, a few days have passed, and I have had more time to reflect on the pocket money front and decided that I would give 5 jobs to be done and at they end of the week if the jobs have been done, I would reward with $5 dollars I think a $1 per job was reasonable for a 6-year-old. I could be wrong, but this is my first rode in the pocket money department, but I am sure chief negotiator small one will correct me if I am wrong lol. So, the jobs I have come up with are more not your common everyday job like I chose to leave making the bed out along with putting dishes in the sink out because I feel those just everyday things and they been getting done for year now without payment, so I am choosing to stick to no payment on these everyday jobs but here are the 5 I have come up with.

  1. . Check and fill dog water each day

  2. Take the recycling out when need

  3. Wipe Down the place mats after dinner

  4. Put the sauce bottles away after dinner

  5. Water the plants

Now these jobs may seem simple to some and other may think I am crazy, but these are things I know my small one can do and often when I am doing said things wants to be involved. I choice these jobs as well to start with as I didn’t want to put something on there like unstack the dishwasher and them be like I hate this job straight away and lose interest in the jobs so for now we will start small and, in few month, ill change the jobs to keep interesting I want be able to reward the small for there fabulous effort and not make them feel like great I have to do this small simple not very time consuming jobs to start I think will really be hit. I could be wrong, but time will tell. I also keep in mind we have an afternoon schedule for after school reading and words and after school activities, so I wanted jobs to fit in with that as well.

I might attach out chart below so you can see what we do around here with reading and sight words etc and ill pop our new chore chart below as well. So, you can see how I have planned it out. Its crazy to think that we have hit this pocket money stage in life, but I am so pleased at the same time. Now I just must show the benefits of saving lol wish me luck there.

Well, I hope everyone is enjoy the school holidays and all the easter chocolate has be enjoyed. I would love to hear if you small one has started small jobs around the house or if you got any ideas.

Well stay safe out there

XO Tieana
