Fussy Eaters
Ahhh what a week it has been. We have been busy celebrating all things small human this week. We have had one hell of a fabulous time and now we are going to slow things back down, jump back in our lane and chug all the way to the end of term 1 #thatscomingsoon. I will not be including a blog from this party, but I will give you sneaky look at the food items that were invited to this party.
So, let’s get into this week’s topic. FUSSY EATERS. I can honestly say, before I had a small human, I believed I was a fabulous cook. Boy was I surely surprised with a 2-year-old refusing everything that was not an avocado or came in the from of a pizza shape. It was in this stage of life I knew that it was not just my sleep that was now controlled but I had just gained my biggest food critic to date. It was game on, challenge accepted. It was time to get creative, lol
You know these small humans are like super detectives sniffing out the smallest of health in foods. I recall time and time again saying how did you find that covered in sauce or out all that pasta you found that one bit of onion. I felt like I was never going to win the battle then it clicked. The small human loved to dip items in sauce, so I started to make my own homemade sauce now this sauce was almost 100% vegetable based brought together with tomatoes so I simple started calling it red sauce and it was welcomed. I then slowly started to make meals using this sauce. Now I aimed to get about 8-10 different vegetables into this sauce at a time, slow cooked it for 8 hours and bob was my uncle, lol.
Over time I knew I needed to somehow get my small one eating vegetables in forms other than the red sauce. So, I moved on to making things that those good old superheros eat like Hulk chips Aka kale chips or wonder women rings aka tomato rings. Everything was a superhero food for a while then my super sniffing detective was back on the case finding every reason to shut the door on those superhero foods, lol.
I once again was feeling at somewhat of a, what will I do? One day I was walking through the big old Kmart and stumbled my little hands across the Kmart $6 pull chopper. And this wiz of a chopper was a bloody game changer. I have been able to hide the most hated of vegetables in things. From mushrooms to beetroot, it has been chopped and hidden and never been discovered, lol.
Over time I have also started to put whole vegetable on plates and lunch boxes. And just making the request of having a try of them I have been consistent, and it has slowly started to pay off. Almost every day the lunch box come home with the vegetables eaten. Some wise lady said to me, it takes at least 7 tries’ to really know if you like something. I am also a found believer in that exposing small humans to food they find uncommon with food they do find common can make them feel less intimidated by them and they may just shock you and give these things ago.
But feeding small humans is a super tricky task on a good day. Adding that eliminate of fussy eating can feel like a nightmare. But let me reassure you in this case, it’s them, not you and you’re probably an amazing cook. But always remember, fed is best even if chicken nuggets are truly life.
Stay safe out there
